At CPAC we provide
psychological assessments to individuals involved in Civil or
Criminal Court cases, personal injury claims or public liability
compensation. While individuals are welcome to contact us for a
psychological assessment, we prefer a formal referral or request
from your lawyers. Also,
we will need access to any relevant
documents, such as police facts sheets and medical reports.
GENERAL
INFORMATION
Medico-legal assessments provide an expert
clinical opinion regarding your clinical, occupational and social
functioning in a medico-legal context. The assessments provide an
independent and objective view of your current functioning and
future outcomes. Medico-legal reports include sections
on prognosis and recommendations for rehabilitation and/or
treatment.
ASSESSMENT OF
PSYCHOLOGICAL AND EMOTIONAL FUNCTIONING
For a full assessment of current emotional functioning you will need to set aside approximately 2 to 3 hours. The assessment involves a face to face interview and the completion of various psychological tests, relevant to your case. CLIENT INFORMATION
ABOUT ASSESSMENT
A neuropsychological assessment evaluates thinking and behaviour.
For the complete assessment we will use information provided by your
doctor and others who have been involved in your treatment. During
the interview we will collect information about you and about your
incident. We will also evaluate your use of medications and drugs
and alcohol, as these substances can influence your thinking ability
and test performance. You should be prepared that full test taking
can take up to six hours. Breaks will be provided
between sections. The cognitive areas (thinking skills) covered in
the assessment are as follows:
- General intellectual level - Memory and
learning - Attention and concentration -
Language ability - Planning and organization ability
- Problem solving ability
We will analyse the interview
and the test results carefully and write a report. The report may
also include information from your doctor, therapists and/or your
solicitor and insurer. We will send a copy of the report to your
referral source.
